The Route of the Castles
One of the most suggestive itineraries that the visitor can find in the lands of Lleida is the Route of the Castles. They are not big fortifications, but very well preserved buildings that keep an historical legacy that dates back to the medieval age, an epoch when these lands were the frontier between the Arab and the Christian worlds.
Four castles constitute this itinerary through the past: Montsonís, in the region of La Noguera; Montclar, in the Urgell; Florejacs and Pallargues in La Segarra. To these constructions, the castle of Vicfred, also in La Segarra, which recreates a great seignorial mansión of the XVIII and XIX centuries; the medieval castle of Vedú, in Urgell; and finally the Castle of Mur in the Pallars Jussà have been added.
